Towards autumn 2018, the iconic Jordal Amfi in Oslo will be transformed into a brand new and modern ice rink. In the meantime, a full-fledged, temporary hall provided by O.B. Wiik ready for use.
Although it makes some Vålerenga ice hockey fans shed a little tear, it has been decided that Jordal Amfi will be replaced by a new facility with modern facilities. The original hall was built for the Oslo Olympics in 1952, and it does not meet today’s standards for use.
The road to the new Jordal Amfi started in January 2017 and according to the plan, the new facility will be ready for the start of the season in September 2018. However, this does not mean that the ice will disappear from Jordal in a year and a half, when O.B. Wiik has already set up a full-fledged ice rink as a temporary alternative.

When O.B. Wiik won the tender to build a temporary ice rink at Jordal Amfi, the project was somewhat behind schedule. That’s why we ran double shifts to set up the hall in record time. In fact, the building was up in just a week and a half.
The hall is 30 x 72 meters in size with a wall height of 7 metres. It is supplied with changing rooms for both men and women, as well as a disabled toilet. The hall has flood lighting thanks to lamps that deliver 300 lux. O. B. Wiik has also been responsible for complete fire and burglary protection linked to the switchboard.
The temporary ice hall at Jordal Amfi is built with insulated canvas. This ensures that the heat stays outside in the summer, so that the hall can be used all year round. In this way, the hall becomes a perfectly good alternative that can remain open until the new facility is completed.
– Primarily, this hall will stand for 24 months, i.e. two years, but it depends on when the new Jordal Amfi is finished, comments sales consultant Rune Paulsen at O.B. Wik.
The purpose of the temporary ice hall at Jordal Amfi is not to give the home crowd as short a route to the games as they are used to. Instead, the hall is set up to maintain the offer in the local environment for other activities on the ice.
– Elite series ice hockey could be moved to other places, but there was a need for an ice surface for all the others who use Jordal Amfi, explains Stein Helset Nordal from Sweco Norge. He has been hired as project manager at Culture and Sports Building for Jordal Amfi’s temporary measures.
– I then think of training, sledge hockey, figure skating and so on. In order to keep the offer for everything other than the elite series, it was decided to set up a temporary ice rink, he elaborates.
Both the quick delivery of the hall and the finished building have been noticed by the project management, who are very satisfied with the temporary solution provided by O.B. Wik.
– We have experienced O.B. Wiik as a cooperating supplier. They are solution-oriented and good at standing up when needed, concludes Helset Nordal.
